Komodo boat trip seasickness depends on the season and on your own sensitivity, The Flying Nomads say, so you cannot know in advance whether you will feel it. NHS general advice is a starting point on a two-night wooden boat: stay mid-boat, watch the horizon, get fresh air, keep meals light, and speak to a pharmacist before you leave home. This is general information, not medical advice.

Will you get Komodo boat trip seasickness, and how rough does the sea get?

No source can answer the first part for you. The Flying Nomads, a travel blog, say seasickness depends on season and sensitivity and suggest bringing pills if you are prone, as one personal account. If you have been sick on a ferry, mention it to your pharmacist.

On the second part, sea state varies. The closest thing to a number is a forecast from a closure. CNN Indonesia reported a BMKG forecast during a January 2026 closure that gave significant waves of 0.80 to 1.20 metres. Those are forecast values for one period. They describe neither a normal day nor a limit, and a wave height tells you little about how a particular hull will move.

Your exposure also runs for longer than the crossing. A 3D2N means two nights at anchor or under way, plus sailing legs between stops, so a person who copes with an hour on a day boat has not necessarily tested two nights aboard. On the other hand, you are also off the boat several times a day, hiking or in the water, which breaks up the time.

Does the season change the swell?

It changes where the swell lands, according to Komodo Resort, an operator. It says the rainy season shifts swell to the north, and that in the dry season it lands to the south. So a question like "when are the seas calmest?" does not have a clean answer from the sources available.

Two practical points follow. First, ask the seller which legs are likely to be exposed on your dates, because a boat that can shelter is a different experience from one crossing open water. Second, treat any promise of a flat-calm month with caution. For how the months compare on rain, heat and sailing, see the best time for a Komodo 3D2N guide.

What does the NHS suggest?

The UK's National Health Service gives general guidance on motion sickness, and none of it is specific to Komodo. The right-hand column is our own application of it to this kind of trip.

What does the NHS suggest?
NHS adviceHow it could apply on a two-night wooden boat
Sit in the middle of a boatChoose a spot midway along the deck for sailing legs, away from the bow and stern
Look at a fixed point such as the horizonStay on deck where you can see out, and leave the cabin during crossings if you feel off
Get fresh airOpen deck rather than an enclosed saloon or a closed cabin
Avoid reading or using devicesLeave photo editing and messages until the boat is still
Avoid heavy meals and alcohol shortly before or during travelKeep lunch light if a long leg comes straight after it, and ask the crew when the next crossing starts
Ginger may helpPack your own, since a boat may not stock it
Pharmacists can advise on tablets, patches and acupressure bandsAsk before you leave home, and mention your hikes, snorkelling and early starts

The NHS adds that bands do not work for everyone, so do not rely on them as your only plan. When you speak to a pharmacist or doctor, ask about timing and drowsiness, and tell them about any other medicine you take. We do not recommend a specific product.

People also ask which cabin is steadiest. No source settles that for Komodo boats. The only guidance we can point to is the NHS's general advice about the middle of a boat, which addresses where to sit and not how a given hull behaves at anchor. We also do not rank speedboats against phinisi boats, or one vessel type against another, for motion. Asking the crew how the boat behaves on your route is reasonable, though you should treat the answer as one person's view.

Sleep can suffer too, even with no motion at all. Wikivoyage reports engine noise on all boats and suggests earplugs. If you are already feeling queasy, a cabin you cannot rest in pushes you back onto the deck, so include earplugs in your bag. Our list of what to pack for a Komodo boat trip covers the rest.

Do listings warn against certain travellers?

At least one does, and it is worth reading such lines closely. A Viator supplier, Longlasting Trip, said its shared boat was not recommended for travellers with seasickness, back problems, pregnancy or serious medical conditions, and needed moderate fitness. Viator marked that listing unavailable in November 2026, so take it as an example of how the wording reads, and it tells you nothing about other boats.

Other sellers pitch to a wider audience. Green Rinjani, an operator, pitches its shared trip at solo travellers and couples, and gives splitting boat, crew, fuel and meals as the main cost benefit. Neither position tells you how that boat will feel at sea. The point of a shared boat, though, is that it keeps to one programme for everyone: if you feel unwell midway through a crossing, do not expect it to turn around for one guest. If you are strongly prone, ask any seller how long the longest sailing leg is.

Safety advice overlaps here. UK government travel advice calls boat travel in Indonesia potentially dangerous, notes uneven standards, and says to look at life jackets and lifeboats and to avoid travel after dark unless satisfied with the vessel. That is a separate issue from nausea, covered in the Komodo boat trip safety guide. If you feel unwell on deck in rough water, tell the crew.

If you are pregnant, or have a heart, inner-ear or other medical condition, speak to your clinician before you book, and tell the seller what you need in writing.

What else do people ask about motion on Komodo boats?

Is the Komodo sea rough?

It varies by day, season and which side of the park you are on. Komodo Resort, an operator, puts the swell in the north during the wet season and the south during the dry. No source here gives a typical wave figure.

Will I get seasick in Komodo?

Possibly. The Flying Nomads, a travel blog, say it depends on season and sensitivity and suggest bringing pills if you are prone. A pharmacist can advise you on options before you travel.

Where to sit on a boat for seasickness?

The NHS says to sit in the middle of a boat, look at a fixed point such as the horizon and get fresh air. On a Komodo boat, that points to an open part of the deck midway along during sailing legs.

When are Komodo seas calmest?

Ask about your route in your month, since Komodo Resort says swell shifts with the season. Komodo Resort, an operator, describes swell shifting rather than disappearing between the wet and dry seasons, so ask your seller which legs are likely to be exposed on your dates.

How to avoid seasickness on a phinisi?

You may not fully avoid it. NHS advice is to stay mid-boat, watch the horizon, avoid reading and screens, and skip heavy meals and alcohol around travel. It also says ginger may help, and that pharmacists can advise on tablets, patches and bands.

How do I reach the desk?

If you are prone to seasickness and want to ask about a particular route or boat, contact the desk on WhatsApp +62 811-3823-875 or by email. The desk cannot promise calm water or give medical advice. It can answer general questions and say what published sources state. For a specific boat, the seller's written answer is what counts.
