Sourced figures: prices in the table carry their source and check month. Fees and fares change, and they are third-party figures, not our offers.
This Komodo 3D2N FAQ gives short sourced answers on the park limit, safety, dragons, visas, health, penalties and the August 2026 earthquake. Where current reports disagree, it says so. Confirm anything time-sensitive with your operator or the park authority before paying.
What is the park limit right now?
The base figure is 1,000 visitors a day. Antara, quoting the park authority, reports that limit in effect since 1 April 2026. What applies at the end of 2026 is less clear. CNN Indonesia says that year's annual quota ran out by August and the authority signed an adjustment on 22 September.
The two national reports then part ways. Kompas reports an extra 500 visitors a day for September to December 2026 on top of the regular 1,000, added in stages with room for more. CNN Indonesia reads the same adjustment as a maximum of 500 a day for that period. Those readings cannot both be right, so ask the park authority or your operator which figure applies to your date.
The wording varies among operators as well. One operator, Karang Travel, still calls it a trial; officials call it in effect and subject to review. Our page on the Komodo visitor quota follows this in more detail.
Is a Komodo 3D2N safe?
That depends on the boat and the date. Two public records help you frame the question. Antara counts at least 15 tourist boat accidents across 2024 and 2025, and our safety page sets out what that figure can and cannot show. The count has no published denominator, so it cannot be turned into an accident rate.
UK travel advice warns that boat standards vary across Indonesia. Its advice is to check life jackets and lifeboats, and to avoid travel after dark unless satisfied with the vessel. The specifics on what to ask are on our Komodo boat trip safety page.
Are dragons dangerous on a walk?
The risk is described as low but not absent. Lonely Planet calls attacks on humans rare, while noting that dragons are capable predators. The park protocol prohibits getting too close to animals and ignoring officers or naturalist guides. Lonely Planet says a ranger is mandatory on Rinca, and Samara, an operator, says one must accompany every group on Komodo, Rinca and Padar. Our summary of Komodo National Park rules sets those requirements out.
Do you need a visa or special health measures?
Whether you can use a visa on arrival depends on your nationality. The visa on arrival runs for up to 30 days and can be extended once for another 30, per Indonesia's immigration site. The e-visa site says travellers need a passport valid for at least six months from arrival. The visa fee from that site appears in the price table on this page.
On health, the US CDC advises malaria medicine for certain areas of Indonesia and notes rabies precautions. A clinician who knows your route and medical history is the right person to decide what you need, so book that conversation well before you fly.
What does the park ticket cost?
Kompas lists the foreign park ticket per person per day in its September 2026 report, and that figure sits in the price table on this page. Because the ticket is charged by the day, a trip spanning three days can involve more than one day's charge, so ask your operator how many days it has allowed for and whether the amount is inside your fare. Rough Guides adds that park fees and possible closure have been discussed over time, and tells readers to check for updates before going.
What happens if you break a park rule?
Consequences can outlast the trip. Serious breaches can mean a six-month blacklist under the park protocol, with separate sanctions for agents and guides. That protocol is published in Indonesian, and we summarise the individual rules in plain English on our rules page.
How big is the park, and which islands matter?
UNESCO places Komodo National Park between Sumbawa and Flores, with three major islands, Rinca, Komodo and Padar, plus numerous smaller ones, all volcanic. Published areas disagree. UNESCO gives the World Heritage property as 219,322 ha. The park authority gives a total of 173,300 ha, made up of 114,801 ha of water and 58,499 ha of land. About two-thirds of the park authority's area is sea, which is why a stay here is organised around a boat. Our Komodo 3D2N itinerary guide shows how operators divide the three days.
Is Komodo open after the August 2026 earthquake?
A trade report from later that month says the park circuit was back. TTG Asia reported on 21 August 2026 that, after the earthquake of 15 August, Padar, Loh Liang, Loh Buaya and Gili Lawa had returned to normal and Komodo Airport had stayed open with some schedule adjustments. Inland Flores remained disrupted, which matters if you plan an overland extension.
That report is a snapshot, so reconfirm before you travel.
Can you do a Komodo 3D2N without a tour?
You can skip a shared tour, but not the boat or the rangers. Free Two Roam, a travel blog, says you can arrange private boat transport instead of joining a shared tour, but you still need a boat to reach the islands and authorised guides or rangers for certain activities. Solo Nomads says entry has to be booked in advance through a licensed operator since the quota began, while Komodo Resort, an operator, also mentions booking through SiORA, so sources differ on who can buy the ticket. In practice the choice is shared boat, private boat or day trip. Ask whoever sells your boat who handles tickets and rangers.
Where do the longer answers sit?
Some questions need more room than a paragraph, and the pages below take them one at a time. Each states its own sources, including where they disagree. Start with the Komodo 3D2N overview if the format is new to you.

Which published prices did we check?
Official fees and public third-party listings, each with its source and the month we checked it. These are not our prices or offers. Listings show starting prices that change often, operator figures are the operator's own, and what each price includes differs, so check the source before you rely on a figure.

What else belongs in a Komodo 3D2N FAQ?
Is Komodo safe in 2026?
Nobody can guarantee the boat or the weather. UK travel advice says boat standards vary across Indonesia. Check the latest park position close to your date.
Do Komodo boats have wifi?
Maika Komodo Tour, an operator, says generally no, with limited mobile signal near some islands. Plan to be offline for two days, and ask the seller in writing what your specific boat offers.
Is malaria a risk in Komodo?
The CDC advises malaria medicine for certain areas of Indonesia. That general advice does not by itself tell you whether your route is covered, so ask a travel clinician well before departure.
Do Komodo boats run all year?
Not reliably. Lonely Planet advises avoiding January to March because some boat operators stop running trips. Closures ordered by the harbourmaster are a separate risk, so treat wet-season dates as provisional.
Can I visit Komodo without a boat?
In practice, no. UNESCO describes the park as three major islands and many smaller ones, so reaching Komodo, Rinca or Padar means crossing water. The real choice is between a day trip and nights aboard.
Can you drink the water on a Komodo boat?
Lonely Planet says most boats have drinking water for top-ups, so a refillable bottle usually works. Confirm it for your boat, and budget separately for drinks, since the same guide says alcohol usually costs extra.
