Sourced figures: prices in the table carry their source and check month. Fees and fares change, and they are third-party figures, not our offers.

A Komodo 3D2N booking checklist should settle six things in writing before you pay: which company holds the contract, the park ticket date, how names reach the manifest, what safety kit is aboard, whether the boat moves at night, and what happens to your money if sailing is closed. Marketplace rank answers none of these.
What belongs on a Komodo 3D2N booking checklist?
Copy these questions into one message and send the same list to every seller you are comparing. The answers are more useful side by side, and a vague reply to a specific question tells you something too.
| Ask this | Why it matters | Source behind it |
|---|---|---|
| Which company signs the contract and takes the payment? | Boat owner, agent and marketplace may be different parties. The ASITA provincial head said no standard refund rules exist between operators, agents and hotels | ASITA provincial head, via CNN Indonesia |
| What date is printed on my park ticket, and who buys it? | Boat owners or agents must check tickets, and entering without a valid one carries a fine of five times the normal rate | Park notice of 23 September 2026, via CNN Indonesia |
| Which passport details do you need, and when? | Names must match the manifest under harbourmaster guidance | Antara, October 2024 |
| Who checks the weather, and when, before sailing? | Guidance tells boat managers to check at least six hours before departure | Antara, October 2024 |
| How many passengers does the boat carry, and is there safety kit for all of them? | Capacity must not be exceeded and equipment must suffice for everyone aboard | Antara, October 2024 |
| Do you move after dark? | Night movement was barred in January 2026, and the UK government advises care about boat travel after dark | Antara, January 2026; UK government |
| What happens to my money if sailing is closed? | No standard refund rule exists between operators, agents and hotels | ASITA provincial head, via CNN Indonesia |
| What does the price leave out? | Exclusions vary, and "All Fees" appears on some listings and not others | GetYourGuide; a Viator supplier |
| Does the boat suit my health, back and fitness? | One supplier said its shared boat was not recommended for people prone to seasickness, pregnant travellers, or those with back trouble or serious conditions | Longlasting Trip on Viator |
Who is the contract with?
Get a company name on paper, not only a boat name or a chat handle. A boat trip can pass through a marketplace, an agent and an owner before it reaches you. Ask each party in writing who handles a change. Ask whether that company owns the boat or books it for someone else, then decide whether the answer changes what you want to confirm.
The same applies to us. Requests through this desk can lead to a paid booking, so we have a commercial interest. Any fee, the price and the contracting company are stated in writing in an offer before you agree. We do not approve, rate or certify operators, and the examples on this page are there to show how terms read.
The word phinisi will not help you judge quality. On Wikipedia's account pinisi is a rig, and the word is used loosely for most wooden Indonesian ships. Ask about the specific boat. Comfort is worth asking about too: one travel blog, Groovy Mashed Potatoes, ended up sleeping on deck on a boat without air conditioning. Bring the Komodo 3D2N itinerary, the Komodo 3D2N route and the Komodo 3D2N boat you were promised into that written answer, and say whether it is a Komodo open trip 3D2N or a private charter.
Is the park ticket date confirmed in writing?
It should be, because ticket dates became an enforcement issue in 2026. Early entry against the ticket date is a known issue, and the acting park head said it affected quota distribution. A notice dated 23 September 2026 then required a valid ticket matching the activity and made boat owners or agents responsible for checking guests and crew.
Samara, a boat operator, describes tickets as passport-based, date-bound and generally non-refundable, bought through SiOra at least a day ahead. Komodo Resort, also an operator, advises two to three days ahead. Solo Nomads, a travel publisher, points to licensed operators for entry, and Komodo Resort also mentions SiOra. Because those accounts differ, the practical step is to ask who buys your ticket and to see the date.
A delayed boat or a changed day raises an obvious follow-up: can the ticket date move with it, and who pays if it cannot? Capacity is the other reason to ask early, and our page on the Komodo visitor quota sets out how the limits have been reported.
What safety checks can you ask about?
You can ask, but you cannot easily verify. The realistic check on a specific boat's licence or seaworthiness is a written answer from the seller and a look at the kit when you board.
Guidance from the harbourmaster, reported by Antara in October 2024, gives you the vocabulary. It tells boat managers to meet seaworthiness requirements with a master's statement, check weather at least six hours before sailing, match passenger names to the manifest, stay within capacity and carry enough safety equipment for everyone. Life jackets must be worn on the tender. UK travel advice says standards vary and tells travellers to check life jackets and lifeboats.
For context, the reported accident count is on our Komodo boat trip safety page. The harbourmaster has also acted against crews: in August 2026 it suspended a captain's licence for three weeks for sailing during a ban. Those reports describe the area in general and say nothing about any particular boat. Our guide to Komodo boat trip safety goes further.
Two extra questions show whether a crew knows the park rules. Ask how the boat moors, since the protocol limits where anchors can drop in shallow water and manta habitat. On night movement, ask whether the January 2026 limit still applies.
What happens to your money if sailing is closed?
Read the wording, because there is no common answer. During the closures in early 2026, the provincial head of ASITA blamed the absence of standard refund rules between operators, agents and hotels for big problems among travellers. One supplier on Viator listed its product as non-refundable and required passport name, number and nationality when booking. That listing was shown as unavailable in November 2026, so it is only one example of how such terms can read.
Ask for these points to be written out: whether a closure means a refund, a credit or a new date; how the park ticket is treated; how long repayment takes; and what happens to a deposit. Ask your hotel and airline about their own terms too. This is not legal advice, and your written terms are what you would be relying on. The dated sequence of closures is on our Labuan Bajo sailing ban page.
Do you need travel insurance for a Komodo 3D2N?
Sellers treat it differently, so check before you pay. Salam Ransel, an operator, says comprehensive travel insurance that also covers cancellation is required for all its trips. Maika Komodo Tour, another operator, strongly recommends cover for diving, medical evacuation and trip interruption, and lists personal insurance as an exclusion. Green Rinjani also excludes it from its 3-day shared tour. Those are sellers' terms and not a legal rule, so ask whether yours requires a policy. Then read the wording for snorkelling, boat travel, evacuation from the park and a closure ordered by the harbourmaster. We do not advise on any particular insurer.
How do you read marketplace listings and rankings?
Treat position on the page as a marketing signal. GetYourGuide says its ranking draws on popularity, ratings, availability and revenue including supplier commissions, so the first result is partly a commercial outcome. It also labels some 3-day listings "All Fees" while others do not. The two listings in the price table on this page show that difference, so compare what each row covers before comparing the numbers. Our Komodo 3D2N cost guide breaks down the items that sit around a headline price.
Inclusion lists vary too. One Viator supplier excluded flights, hotel, snacks and drinks, and tipping, while including shuttle, snorkel gear and a Komodo ranger. Wikivoyage advises asking about departure and return times, stops per day, walking requirements and sailing time. Reviews can tell you how a past trip felt, but they cannot tell you whether the same boat, crew and terms apply to your date, so ask that directly.
How far ahead should you start looking?
Start looking as soon as your dates are firm. The Flying Nomads, a travel blog, started searching about two weeks before travel in peak season and found many reputable boats full. That is a single personal account, but the risk it describes is real enough to plan around. A last-minute search may still turn something up, but you would be choosing from what is left, and the ticket lead times above still apply. Readers still deciding whether the format suits them can go back to the Komodo 3D2N overview first.
Which published prices did we check?
Official fees and public third-party listings, each with its source and the month we checked it. These are not our prices or offers. Listings show starting prices that change often, operator figures are the operator's own, and what each price includes differs, so check the source before you rely on a figure.
| Item | Published price | Source | Checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3-Day Komodo Sailing Ocean View Cabin, labelled All Fees (GetYourGuide listing) | From USD 259, shown down from USD 324 | getyourguide.com | Nov 2026 |
| 3-Day Komodo Sailing Tour, small group (GetYourGuide listing) | From USD 330 | getyourguide.com | Nov 2026 |
What do people ask before booking?
How to book a Komodo 3D2N?
Compare a few sellers using the same written questions, then ask for an itinerary, an inclusion list and the name of the contracting company before paying. Send passport details exactly as printed, because names have to match the manifest.
Is my Komodo operator reliable?
We do not rate operators, so ask the seller in writing about the boat's licence. A useful test is how specifically the seller answers written questions on the contract, manifest, safety kit, night movement and refunds, and whether those answers appear in the final terms.
Who contracts a Komodo boat trip?
It depends on the seller. It may be an owner, an agent or a company behind a marketplace listing, so ask which company name appears on the contract and receipt. Ask that company in writing how refunds work.
How far ahead to book a Komodo boat?
Earlier is safer for peak dates. The Flying Nomads, a travel blog, began about two weeks out in peak season and found many reputable boats full, which is one personal account. Park tickets have their own lead time, which operators report differently.
What to ask before booking a Komodo boat?
Ask who holds the contract, who buys the park ticket and for what date, how many passengers sail, what safety kit is aboard, whether the boat moves after dark, what the price leaves out, and what happens to your money if sailing is closed.

How do I reach the desk?
Questions about this list, or a request for a boat, can go to WhatsApp +62 811-3823-875 or you can email the desk. The desk can answer general questions and say what published sources state. For a specific boat, the seller's written answer is what counts. A boat or a date is only stated in a written offer.
Send the desk your dates, group size, and boat preference. The desk replies in writing.
