Pink Beach on a Komodo boat trip is a landing that one operator, Labuan Bajo Tourism, times at 09:30, ahead of the day boats. Sources disagree about what to call it, how to place it and why the sand is pink. The same operator says the reef starts a few metres off the sand, so you may be able to snorkel from shore.
Where is Pink Beach on a Komodo boat trip?
That depends on whose wording you follow. Lonely Planet places the pink-sand Pantai Merah on the far side of Padar. Longlasting Trip, a Viator supplier, says Pink Beach is also known as Long Beach. CNN Indonesia, in a June 2026 report on a six-stop speedboat route that also includes Padar, Taka Makassar, Manta Point and Kanawa, writes it as Pantai Panjang or Pantai Merah Muda. In Indonesian those names mean Long Beach, Red Beach and Pink Beach, so the differences are not trivial.
| Source | Name used | Location or context | Colour explanation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lonely Planet | Pantai Merah | Far side of Padar | Foraminifera shells |
| Seek Sophie (booking platform) | Pink Beach | Not placed | Tiny red coral fragments |
| Longlasting Trip (Viator supplier) | Pink Beach, also Long Beach | On its shared-boat route | Not given |
| CNN Indonesia | Pantai Panjang or Pantai Merah Muda | On a six-stop speedboat route | Not given |
So if you are asking whether it is Pink Beach Padar or Pink Beach Komodo, only Lonely Planet here commits to an island, and Pink Beach Komodo may simply mean the national park. Nothing in these sources proves that every name refers to one strand of sand. If a specific beach matters to you, ask your seller which one the boat lands at and on which day. For how it fits among other stops, see the Komodo 3D2N route comparison.
Why is the sand pink?
Two explanations are in circulation, and they do not match. Lonely Planet credits Foraminifera shells. Seek Sophie, a booking platform, credits tiny red coral fragments. Neither is presented as a scientific study of this beach, so this page leaves the disagreement open and does not choose. For a traveller the cause matters less than what you see on the day.
On that, Seek Sophie offers the one practical pointer: it says the pinkest stretch is at the far end of the beach. That also answers the common question of whether Pink Beach is really pink. By that account the colour is not uniform along the sand, so if you land at one end and stay there, you may see less of it. Treat bright photographs with some caution, since photographs can be edited. If colour is what you came for, walk the beach and do not spend the whole stop in the water near the landing point.
When do overnight boats land?
The only published clock time here comes from Labuan Bajo Tourism, an operator, which says it lands at 09:30, before day boats arrive. That is the seller's own claim about its own schedule, and it describes a plan rather than a fixed slot. Still, it fits the usual logic of a 3D2N: the boat starts the day at Padar for sunrise and is close to the beach by mid-morning. The Padar sunrise timing guide covers the first half of that morning.
Standard day trips work differently. Lonely Planet says the park entry fee covers one of three walks on Komodo, after which visitors move to snorkel stops after lunch. It also describes Taka Makassar and Karang Makassar as afternoon snorkel stops on standard day tours, with turtles and manta rays often seen. Fast day boats can follow a different order, and the route CNN Indonesia described packs six stops into one day, so the 09:30 advantage may not hold against every boat on every day.
As for crowding, The Flying Nomads, a travel blog, report plenty of space at the beach. That is one visit on one day and no measure of what you will find. How long a boat stops is not stated in these sources. Published samples give a landing time at most, so ask your seller how long is planned, since it may be cut if the morning runs late.
Pink Beach and Taka Makassar are listed as separate stops, and Labuan Bajo Tourism's sample carries both on different days. If you see only one of them on an offer, ask why.
Can you snorkel from the beach?
Labuan Bajo Tourism says the reef starts a few metres off the sand, and it does not say whether guests swim out from the beach, so ask the crew about entry and current on the day. The Flying Nomads describe floating in clear water here, and Free Two Roam, a travel blog, snorkelled near the beach on its visit. Those are two traveller accounts of one day each.
Being near the shore is not the same as being safe. Conditions vary, and visibility and marine life are not guaranteed, so ask about the current. Ask the crew about the water before you go in, and whether anyone will watch swimmers from the beach or the tender. Bring your own mask if you are particular about fit, and check with the seller whether equipment is supplied. The Komodo boat trip snorkelling guide covers stops, currents and limits across the park.
What can you buy there?
Possibly a drink. Seek Sophie says stalls at Pink Beach sell drinks such as fresh coconuts and tells guests to bring cash. That is a single platform's account, and what is on sale can change, so carry water from the boat and treat a coconut as a bonus. A little small cash in a dry bag covers it. Do not count on food, gear hire or card payment at the beach.
What else do people ask about Pink Beach?
Why is pink beach pink?
Sources disagree. Lonely Planet credits Foraminifera shells, while Seek Sophie credits tiny red coral fragments. This page does not pick between them, as neither is presented as a study of this beach.
Where is pink beach Komodo?
Lonely Planet places the pink-sand Pantai Merah on the far side of Padar. Other sources name it as Long Beach or Pantai Panjang without placing it on an island. Ask your seller which beach their boat uses.
How long do boats stop at pink beach?
These sources give no duration. Labuan Bajo Tourism gives only a 09:30 landing. Ask your seller how long is planned and whether the stop shortens if the morning runs late.
Are there stalls at pink beach Komodo?
Seek Sophie says stalls sell drinks such as fresh coconuts and advises bringing cash. Treat that as one platform's account.
Is Pink Beach really pink?
Partly, by the available accounts. Seek Sophie says the pinkest stretch is at the far end of the beach, which suggests the colour varies along the sand. Photographs may not match what you see.
